The University of El Oued achieved a remarkable milestone by ranking first nationally, 38th in Africa, and 936th globally out of 1,476 universities and educational institutions from 95 countries worldwide in the GreenMetrics Ranking 2024. This ranking is based on key indicators including environmental sustainability, energy and water management, waste treatment, and green infrastructure. This achievement reflects the significant efforts made by the university in implementing sustainability standards and strengthening its academic standing through innovative green initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprint, optimizing resource use, and developing a sustainable campus environment that supports the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The university continuously strives to enhance its environmental performance by adopting eco-friendly strategies and promoting a culture of sustainability among students and staff, making it a model institution at both national and international levels.
