The XIX Scientific Conference on Environmental and Climate Technologies (CONECT 2026) will take place from 12 to 15 May at Riga Technical University in Riga. The international conference brings together researchers from over 25 countries to present and publish research on energy systems, environmental engineering, sustainability, and climate-related technologies, with a strong focus on supporting early-career scientists. University of Technology Sydney Strengthens Strategic Partnership with RTU During Visit to Latvia

In January 2026, representative from the University of Technology Sydney visited Riga Technical University, reinforcing the growing collaboration. Discussions focused on joint EU–Australia funding, research in quantum technologies, microchips, photonics, IoT, 5G/6G, and academic mobility, highlighting opportunities to expand joint research, innovation projects, and collaborative educational programmes. RTU-developed software project receives recognition at European Space Agency competition

At an innovation event organised by ESA BIC Latvia, a software project from the Riga Technical University Aeronautics, Space Engineering and Transport Institute received special recognition. Developed by RTU researchers and students, the project successfully operated on the International Space Station, demonstrating strong technical quality and highlighting the competitiveness of Latvian engineering education in the space sector. RTU Researchers Advance Facial Bone Tissue Regeneration

Scientists at Riga Technical University, working with partners in Turkiye and Israel, are studying levan hydrogels with bioactive molecules for facial bone regeneration. Led by researcher Inga Jurgelane, the project shows that hydrogels containing IGF-1 and cannabidiol stimulate bone cell formation and reduce inflammation, demonstrating strong potential for future regenerative therapies. RTU Scientists Present A New Model For Determining The Co2 Emissions Of Ships Entering Port

Scientists at Riga Technical University have developed an innovative system to monitor ship CO₂ emissions in Latvian ports. The ECO2-PORT project combines a sensor-equipped land-based drone, a port command centre, and machine learning to detect and analyse ship exhaust gases in real time. The results support stricter air-pollution control and can be applied in Latvian port operations. Read more about the research here

International Quantum Photonics Conference to Be Held at RTU

An international conference on quantum photonics will take place at Riga Technical University from 11 to 13 February, bringing together researchers and practitioners from the Baltic region and beyond. The event supports collaboration and knowledge exchange in quantum technologies and contributes to developing a roadmap for a quantum photonics centre of excellence in Latvia under an EU-funded project.
