7.4.2 – Does your university as a body promote a public pledge toward 100% renewable energy (petitions, meetings, discussions, events) beyond the university?

University Advocacy for Renewable Energy Adoption

The University of El Oued promotes the adoption of renewable energy technologies and options to external parties through the institutional activities and strategic operations of its specialized research body: the Research Unit for the Development of Renewable Energy in Arid Zones. The university’s advocacy is focused on the continuous promotion of the feasibility and necessity of clean energy solutions to the regional economic and social sectors.

Mechanism of Advocacy and External Promotion

The university demonstrates its promotion efforts by ensuring the continuous operation and strategic funding of the research unit that generates clean energy expertise. The evidence confirms this institutional commitment is active and organized in 2024:

On January 17, 2024, the Council of the Renewable Energy Research Unit held a crucial meeting to discuss the financial appropriations for the 2024 work program. This internal strategic action is the fundamental step for enabling all external promotion and advocacy throughout the year. The allocation of financial resources and the finalization of the work program guarantee that the Unit has the necessary capacity to conduct the studies, develop the content (workshops, technical reports, and consultations), and maintain the infrastructure required for advising industry and the public on renewable energy options.

Furthermore, the Unit Director confirmed the decision to extend the research laboratories’ working hours until 10:00 PM. This operational change is aimed at significantly increasing research output. This heightened capacity directly supports the university’s ability to offer timely and valuable direct services and advice to local industry and the public—acting as a sustained form of advocacy and technical promotion for clean energy adoption beyond the university walls.
