7.2.4 – Does your university as a body have an energy efficiency plan in place to reduce overall energy consumption?

Institutional Energy Efficiency Plan

The University of El Oued has a formal, institutional energy efficiency plan in place, which is established and mandated through the Rector’s Official Commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Achieving net-zero emissions is impossible without a comprehensive plan to reduce overall energy consumption and improve efficiency campus-wide.

Evidence of Formal Plan

The Rector’s Statement explicitly outlines the key strategic pillars of the plan, which are all aimed at reducing energy demand and consumption:

  1. Energy Efficiency Initiatives: The university is committed to implementing strategic initiatives focused on optimizing energy use and enhancing energy efficiency across all facilities.

  2. Renewable Energy Integration: The plan includes the integration of renewable energy sources to displace consumption from conventional, less efficient sources.

  3. Building Upgrades: The university has active plans to rehabilitate existing buildings (like the student residences) to higher energy efficiency standards, directly targeting the largest areas of energy consumption and wastage.

This commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040 serves as the primary, high-level energy efficiency plan for the entire university body, defining the strategic initiatives to significantly reduce overall energy consumption over the long term.
