1.3.4 – Does your university as a body have programmes or initiatives to assist students who fall into the bottom 20% of household income group (or a more tightly defined target) in the country to successfully complete their studies?
Targeted Initiative for Successful Completion and Professional Integration
The University of El Oued implements specific, continuous initiatives that target highly vulnerable student populations who face severe academic and employment barriers, thereby addressing the needs of the economically disadvantaged. The “Basmet Amal” (Hope’s Fingerprint) Club, in coordination with the university, runs programs aimed at ensuring the successful completion and professional integration of students with disabilities (ذوي الهمم). This group is statistically recognized as facing high rates of financial hardship and exclusion, making them a valid target group for interventions designed to promote academic success.

The specific program demonstrating this commitment is the Training Workshop for Learning Braille Technique for Visually Impaired Students, held on May 8, 2024. This workshop was strategically organized as a continuation of the National Seminar on Professional Integration in the Labor Market, linking specialized academic support directly to future employment prospects. The initiative was coordinated with the Psychological Assistance Center and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, confirming the university body’s commitment to a holistic approach.

The practical training, which included theoretical, applied, and challenge stages, focused on teaching the Braille language technique, a fundamental skill that directly enhances the academic ability of visually impaired students to read, write, and engage with educational material. By building these essential skills and addressing future employment anxiety through structured, continuous initiatives, the university directly enables a highly vulnerable student cohort to successfully complete their studies and transition into the workforce.
