3.3.3 – Does your university as a body share sports facilities with the local community, for instance with local schools or with the general public?

The University of El Oued maintains an institutional practice of sharing its sports facilities with the extended local community. Access is granted to various non-student affiliated groups, including university staff, union members, and specialized clubs for persons with disabilities, ensuring the facilities contribute to the health and wellbeing of a wide range of local individuals.

The university confirms the utilization of sports facilities for activities that extend beyond routine student academic use, demonstrating active resource sharing:

  1. Support for Persons with Disabilities:
  • On May 8, 2024, the “Basmat Amal” (Hope Imprint) Club for Persons with Disabilities—a specialized community-focused organization—was granted use of the dedicated sports hall located within the Mujahid Moussaoui Mabrouk University Residence.
  • The event featured a goalball match as part of a scientific symposium’s program. This formal allocation of a university residence’s dedicated sports space to a local disability welfare group confirms the university’s commitment to sharing specialized infrastructure to promote inclusion and wellbeing for specific segments of the local community.

2. Staff and Union Activities:

○ The university routinely opens its campus grounds and sports areas to its professional workforce and associated union bodies, which are integral parts of the local working community.
○ On April 29, 2024, the National Federation for Higher Education and Scientific Research (affiliated with the staff union) used the main University Campus space to conclude its Major Sports Competitions. These events, commemorating Worker’s Day, included races for male and female faculty, administrative staff, and workers.

○ This organized access for staff and union members demonstrates that the university’s sporting infrastructure is an institutional resource shared actively to promote the physical health, exercise, and social wellbeing of its employees, who reside locally.

The documented use of the University Residence sports hall and the main campus grounds for activities involving specialized clubs for persons with disabilities confirms that the University of El Oued implements a policy of sharing its sports facilities to benefit the health and wellbeing of the extended local community.
